Wow, I love the way you think. And I also like how you explain things to your son. It gives me more ideas.
My son is terrified of monsters. What I feel is happening is the entities that I work with (and they look rather scary) are also working with him. I think we both come from this group. I have seen myself as one of these entities on numerous occasions (when in an altered consciousness). And when I first started bringing my meetings with them into my consciousness, it was rather confronting. So I can only imagine how freaky it is for my son.
He likes the drapes open because he was able to explain to me (with his limited language abilities) that the curtains billow and that means a ghost is there. For me, having the curtains open would allow the glass to become a mirror in which I would be certain to see "monsters", but to each his own.
I tried at one point to tell him that he could call on the blue fairy (from the movie Pinocchio) to come soothe and protect him. It may have helped some. I also did rainbow colour work with him (not realizing the chakra significance) going over each colour.
Finally I settled on encouraging him to face his fears. He often asks to sleep in a tent or another room as a protection from monsters. I feel he will still experience these fears no matter where he sleeps. I asked him if the monsters had ever hurt him. He said, no. I asked if they are mean to him, he said, no. In the end he said that the monsters love him. (But they still scare him).
With our latest work, I have said to him that I am helping him learn to be human. It was helpful that he had seen Pinocchio so many times because he said to me, so I can become a real boy. To which I agreed. (I feel I am also learning to be human--that we all are). So when he is afraid, I remind him, or he will realize on his own, that it is not easy, but that we all really do want to become human. He seems to agree entirely on his own that this is his own goal. It is kind of amazing.
