A rock-tumbler is certainly one way to view things. Society has been designed to foster imbalance. The plan being to achieve balance through the negative polarity. At least that is roughly speaking the modus operandi of the main power structure. But all things live and all things die, with civilizations included. You may think of balance as "zero-point".

I think I have more clarity in what you have said. I would agree for the most part. Perhaps to be included in consideration are those qualities, aspects of the self, certain emotions for example which may be artifacts of the soul peering through the "conscious lens" to this consciousness level.
