Small magnitude 3.4 earthquake 27 miles southwest of Wichita, Kansas, United States 3.4 quake 18 Mar 11:26 pm (GMT -5) A magnitude 3.4 earthquake near Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas, USA, was reported only 13 minutes ago by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 3.1 miles beneath the epicenter late at night on Friday, March 18th, 2022, at 11:26 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Norwich (pop. 470) located 5 miles from the epicenter, and Marshall (pop. 2,200) 9 miles away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Clearwater (pop. 2,500) located 15 miles from the epicenter, Goddard (pop. 4,700) 15 miles away, Saint Marys (pop. 2,300) 16 miles away, Haysville (pop. 11,200) 24 miles away, Wichita (pop. 390,000) 27 miles away, and El Paso (pop. 23,500) 28 miles away. In Hutchinson (pop. 41,600, 39 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
