I also wanted to add about avoiding pain and suffering, and not seeking out pleasure, that this seems to be a concept that when in balance is very subtle. I do not think that it means that one must endure intense pain, nor that pleasure should not be enjoyed. But rather, to become conscious as opposed to reactionary and unconscious in avoiding pain or seeking pleasure. And to accept the minor pains and pleasures as they come.
Pain, as well as pleasure, IMO, is a red flag of sorts to draw attention to the process that is bringing it, so that looking into it, wondering about why it is being experienced, will bring about the natural unfoldment of the unconscious blocks in place that are causing it. The results are enlightenment and greater mastery.
I have sometimes taken to heart one extreme or the other, where I cut myself off from relief or pleasure and other times where I seem to be running from and trying to prevent an experience I feel will bring pain. But then I eventually remember that problems and habits are an issue of unconsciousness, a sign post to focus and pay attention to see what is really happening behind the scenes in my mind.
The point is unfoldment and flowwwww. Hills and valleys are the nature of existence. It's like a rollercoaster ride in the dark where you know inclines as well as thrilling drops are ahead, but just holding on, relaxing, and accepting makes the ride easier, more interesting, more fun.
Life is definitely not about perfection. And doesn't have to be about suffering. IMO it is about experience. As my higherself said to me the other night, "she" came here to experience emotions and heterosexuality (duality). And as her vehicle/crucible, I want to accommodate and enjoy the ride because I have felt what it is like to be her and without emotion, and whilst it is peaceful, emotion has its appeal and necessity, too.
