Well the next post is a little earlier as I was asked if I would like to start a little earliar!!like Thursday (yesterday). What a day the poor guy doing the paint sripping (coat stripping)worked his guts out removing the old coats of paint it took a long 5 hrs and this is round one, another round of selected stripping ( pieces that we missed will be done on Monday).
Normally you don't use this high pressure to remove previously painted roofs but in this case we had to as we had to get as much off as posable, holy hell paint and mortar from the cemented caps were flying everwhere!! so were you if you were blasted at by 3800 PSI.
The roof is approximately 95% stripped now, and while the water blaster was working I was inside the roof to check for water leaks, but lucky 99% of the sarking did its job but that 1% caused a laugh.
Only 2 weeks ago I watched a DVD on the Three Stooges being Plumbers and I laughed my head off when they connected an electrical pipe to a water pipe thus filling all the lights with water, Then the same happened here the 1% where the water came into the roof was where some dickhead put the sarking UNDER the Galvanised tray not OVER it like it should be so instead of the water going from the sarking to the gal tray it went under onto the plaster right above one of our upstairs toilets and into the back of the light fitting.
Because the light fitting was a big Glass ball type it filled with water and spewed onto the tiles and although the light was off it tripped the Safety switch but no problems here. Phil dismantled the light fitting and being an electrician disconnected it and cleaned up the mess in the toilet and told the pressure cleaner "keep going don't stop".
I spent all day on Friday hosing down the mess on the roof as you could imagine, there was paint (coating) splattered everywhere. It took me 1 1/2 hours to hose the roof down then it took 4 hours to clean the gutters out as they were chocka block with paint, cement, broken tiles and whatever, and they were hard to clean as the safety railing was in my way. There were 8 buckets full of the stuff.
Aren't Impulse lucky as they have someone like me that doesn't complain about the water in the roof which I expected to happen anyhow and I don't mind getting up there and helping the guys in any way I can, nor the time I spent washing and cleaning the gutters out. The guys did work very hard so its in my interest to do my bit. The gutters are that clean now you can see your face in them. Thanks to a good garden hose.
Now, this new high pressure water blaster had teething problems. Its water delivery supply tank had a faulty control valve so that meant either no water or too much water in the delivery tank so we needed a volunteer to stay there for 5 hours to play with the handle to control the water level. Now here is my poor missus sitting on a bucket playing with this handle and as the water blaster got closer to the front of the house she was getting wet so she had to grab the umbrella to protect herself. She finished with a sore back and a numb hand.
Darron, I hope you fix it before you come back on Monday (goes double for the missus)!!!!!!!!!!!!
Phil
